How It Feels
Outlaw is the pirate, the privateer, the scoundrel with saber and pistol. You fight in the open rather than from the shadows, whirl through packs of enemies and roll for your luck in the middle of battle. Every fight feels a little different, because chance plays along.
The pace is high and lively. Instead of building toward one big window, you deal steady damage and react to the effects the game throws at you. Many guides count Outlaw among the more demanding specs, and fans love it for exactly that.
How Outlaw Works
Outlaw also uses energy and combo points:
- Build combo points: Sinister Strike is your basic attack and with some luck hits a second time. Then your next Pistol Shot gets cheaper and stronger.
- Roll: Roll the Bones gives you a random combat enhancement. You keep it up as much as possible.
- Finishers: Dispatch is your main finisher, Between the Eyes a pistol finisher that briefly raises your damage.
- Groups: Blade Flurry makes your single-target attacks hit nearby enemies too for a few seconds.
- Adrenaline Rush: your big cooldown, more energy and faster attacks.
Key Abilities
- Sinister Strike: your basic attack, can hit twice and set up an empowered Pistol Shot.
- Pistol Shot: a quick shot with your concealed pistol.
- Roll the Bones: rolls a random combat enhancement.
- Dispatch: your main finisher, stronger with every combo point.
- Between the Eyes: a pistol finisher that briefly raises your damage.
- Blade Flurry: your attacks also hit up to four nearby enemies.
- Adrenaline Rush: more energy and faster attacks, your big cooldown.
Lore: Pirates of the South Seas
Outlaw thrives on Azeroth's pirate flair. In Booty Bay at the southern tip of Stranglethorn, the goblins of the Steamwheedle Cartel are in charge, while the Bloodsail Buccaneers cruise off the coast. Kul Tiras, in turn, has a long tradition of sailors, smugglers and privateers.
In Legion, Rogues got a secret guild, the Uncrowned, who worked against the Legion from the shadows out of a hideout beneath Dalaran. Outlaw embodies the daring, flamboyant side there: if you rely on your luck, you need a bit of style too.
Strengths and Weaknesses
Strengths
- a lively, varied playstyle,
- steady damage, strong against several enemies thanks to Blade Flurry,
- Stealth and lots of control tools,
- a strong pirate fantasy.
Weaknesses
- demanding, you constantly react to random effects,
- leather, less sturdy than plate wearers,
- luck plays a role, which not everyone enjoys.
Who Is the Outlaw Rogue For?
A good fit if you …
- love pirates, sabers and pistols,
- enjoy variety and chance,
- like reacting quickly.
Probably not if you …
- want a calm, plannable loop, in which case Assassination fits,
- want an especially easy spec.
Outlaw, Assassination or Subtlety?
Assassination is the calm assassin with poisons, Subtlety the ninja with shadow windows. Outlaw is the choice for everyone who would rather fight in the open and with style.
