Playstyle

The Demon Hunter took demonic power into itself to fight the Burning Legion with its own weapons. It wears leather, fights with warglaives and may be the most mobile class in the game: Fel Rush, Vengeful Retreat, double jump and glide take it anywhere.
Its resource is Fury. With Metamorphosis it turns into a demon and becomes much stronger for a short time. Spectral Sight even lets it see enemies through walls.
Background and lore
Demon hunters are elves who take demonic magic into themselves to beat the Burning Legion with its own weapons. Their leader was Illidan Stormrage, the Betrayer, who sacrificed everything for his goals. His followers, the Illidari, gave up their eyesight and have seen with demonic sight ever since. The class became playable in Legion, where every demon hunter's story begins on the demon world Mardum.
Specializations
Havoc
Havoc is the classic melee demon hunter: fast, fluid and with Eye Beam as its signature. Double jump, glide and Fel Rush make it the most mobile class in the game. Considered relatively easy to learn.
Signature abilities: Blade Dance
Vengeance
Vengeance tanks with soul fragments and sigils that control enemies. Lots of self-healing and mobility for a tank. Vengeance does very well solo and shows up in many solo guides.
Signature abilities: Spirit Bomb, Sigil of Flame, Demon Spikes
Devourer
Devourer is the new specialization from Midnight. Instead of fel magic it draws on the Void and fights from mid range, while keeping a demon hunter's full mobility. With Consume you drain the essence from enemies, even on the move, and build Fury. Reap gathers souls, and with enough Soul Fragments you ascend into Void Metamorphosis, which substantially empowers your abilities. That fits Midnight's story, in which the Void plays a big role. Some guides already name Devourer a good entry into ranged combat.
Signature abilities: Void Ray, Collapsing Star
Who is the Demon Hunter for?
A good fit if you …
- love mobility above all else,
- want an action-packed class that is fun right away,
- want to try a fresh ranged style in Midnight with the Devourer.
Not ideal if you …
- want to heal, since the Demon Hunter has no healing spec,
- prefer a calm, planned playstyle.
Strengths and weaknesses
The Demon Hunter feels fast and powerful from the first minute, and Havoc is very playable for beginners too. With the Devourer, the class got a completely new style in Midnight, though it splits the community: some love it, others aren't convinced yet.
