Races with the widest choice

Tauren and Zandalari Trolls can play the most, with 11 classes each, including Druid and Paladin. Next, with 10 classes, come Dwarves, Night Elves, Draenei, Dark Iron Dwarves, Kul Tirans, Trolls, Blood Elves and Highmountain Tauren. The Dracthyr have the smallest choice, with 7 classes.

New in Midnight

  • Haranir: Midnight's new race can be Warrior, Hunter, Rogue, Priest, Shaman, Mage, Warlock, Monk and Druid.
  • Void Elf Demon Hunter: Fitting the story around the Void, Void Elves can now be Demon Hunters.
  • Announced for patch 12.2: Night Elves, Trolls and Undead are set to become Paladins. Until the patch is out, they are marked ◇ in the table and not counted.

Neutral races

Pandaren, Dracthyr, Earthen and Haranir do not belong to a fixed faction. You choose Alliance or Horde as you play. Handy if your friends play on a particular side.

How to choose your race

Pick the race you like. Racial abilities give small advantages, but the difference is minor and changes with patches. Looks, animations, story and faction, on the other hand, stay with you every day. If your favorite race cannot play your dream class, look at the classes that almost every race can play.

Not sure which class it should be yet? The class quiz will help, or let the rare classes fight it out in the arena. Classic Azeroth has its own overview: WoW Forever races and classes.
