How It Feels
Augmentation is unlike any other spec in the game. You do deal damage yourself, but your real contribution lies in making your teammates stronger. Black dragon magic boosts their stats, bronze time magic grants them foresight. On the damage meter your contribution often does not really show up.
It feels like being a strategist. You watch who is popping their big cooldowns and make sure your empowerments land exactly then. If you like pulling the strings from behind the scenes, this is a unique role.
How Augmentation Works
The Augmentation Evoker uses Essence and empowered spells:
- Ebon Might: raises the primary stat of nearby damage dealers and your own damage.
- Prescience: raises an ally's critical strike chance, ideally a teammate with active cooldowns.
- Extend: Eruption, empowered spells such as Upheaval and Breath of Eons extend your Ebon Might.
- Breath of Eons: you fly across the battlefield and deal damage, one of your big cooldowns.
Key Abilities
- Ebon Might: boosts your allies' primary stats and your own damage.
- Prescience: raises an ally's critical strike chance.
- Eruption: a violent eruption beneath the enemy.
- Upheaval: an empowered spell that hurls enemies into the air.
- Breath of Eons: a flight across the battlefield, your big cooldown.
Lore: Black and Bronze Dragons
Augmentation combines the black and bronze dragonflights. The black flight, once corrupted under Neltharion, stands for the power of the earth. In Dragonflight, his descendants such as Ebyssian and Wrathion found a new path. The bronze flight under Nozdormu guards time.
The spec arrived with patch 10.1, the story of Neltharion's legacy. The Dracthyr, whom Neltharion once created, now use his flight's power to strengthen their allies instead of destroying.
Strengths and Weaknesses
Strengths
- a unique support role, no other spec plays like it,
- very valuable in groups,
- mail armor and Hover for casting on the move,
- lots of depth for strategic players.
Weaknesses
- your contribution is hard to see on the damage meter,
- weaker solo than Devastation,
- requires you to watch your teammates closely.
Who Is the Augmentation Evoker For?
A good fit if you …
- like empowering others and pulling strings from behind the scenes,
- play in regular groups,
- are drawn to an unusual, strategic role.
Probably not if you …
- play solo a lot, in which case Devastation fits better,
- like seeing your contribution in big numbers.
Augmentation, Devastation or Preservation?
Devastation deals direct damage with dragon magic, Preservation heals with dream and time magic. Augmentation is the choice for everyone who wants to make their group stronger.
