How It Feels
Demonology is the summoner fantasy. You do not fight alone, you command an entire army from hell. A Felguard with a mighty axe stands at your side permanently, Wild Imps leap out of demonic meteors, Dreadstalkers charge in, and at the climax a Tyrant appears and makes them all stronger.
It feels chaotic and satisfying at the same time. The screen fills with demons, but underneath there is a clear rhythm of building, summoning and unloading.
How Demonology Works
Demonology uses Soul Shards:
- Build Soul Shards: Shadow Bolt generates one Soul Shard, Demonbolt even two.
- Summon imps: Hand of Gul'dan spends Soul Shards and drops a meteor full of Wild Imps on the target.
- Dreadstalkers: Call Dreadstalkers summons two demon hounds that attack your target.
- Tyrant: Summon Demonic Tyrant calls your strongest demon. The more minions are active, the more damage it deals.
- Groups: Implosion pulls your imps to the target and makes them explode.
Key Abilities
- Summon Felguard: your permanent Felguard, a powerful melee fighter.
- Shadow Bolt: your basic spell, generates a Soul Shard.
- Demonbolt: a stronger spell that generates two Soul Shards.
- Hand of Gul'dan: a demonic meteor full of Wild Imps.
- Call Dreadstalkers: two demon hounds attack your target.
- Summon Demonic Tyrant: your mightiest demon, stronger with every active minion.
- Implosion: makes your imps explode at the target.
Lore: Gul'dan and the Skull of the Man'ari
Demonology carries Gul'dan's name in its most important ability. The orc Warlock made a pact with the Burning Legion, founded the Shadow Council and turned the orcs into tools of the demons. To this day he is the epitome of the Warlock who puts power above everything.
In Legion, Demonology Warlocks carried the Skull of the Man'ari, the skull of Gul'dan himself, as their artifact. With it they commanded demons with the voice of their most infamous master.
Strengths and Weaknesses
Strengths
- the strongest pet fantasy in the game,
- very comfortable solo thanks to the Felguard,
- a clear rhythm with a big climax,
- lots of demons on screen, very entertaining.
Weaknesses
- a lot going on on screen, which can be confusing,
- the timing of the Tyrant matters a lot,
- cloth, vulnerable to direct hits.
Who Is the Demonology Warlock For?
A good fit if you …
- want to command minions and lead an army,
- love chaos and demons,
- like building toward a big climax.
Probably not if you …
- prefer a clean screen, in which case Destruction fits,
- would rather stand in melee with your minions, for example as an Unholy Death Knight.
Demonology, Affliction or Destruction?
Affliction lets enemies wither under curses, Destruction relies on fire and chaos. Demonology is the choice for everyone who wants to command demons.
