How It Feels
Destruction is the Warlock who unleashes hell directly on their enemies. Instead of spreading curses or gathering demons, you hurl hellfire and chaos magic. Every Chaos Bolt is a big, visible hit, and when an Infernal falls from the sky, the ground shakes.
It feels direct and heavy. You build up, you unload, you see big numbers. That makes Destruction easy to understand and very satisfying.
How Destruction Works
Destruction uses Soul Shards, which you build from shard fragments:
- Apply Immolate: burns the target over time and generates Soul Shard fragments as it does.
- Build: Incinerate is your basic spell and generates fragments, Conflagrate explodes instantly on the target and speeds up your next spell.
- Spend: Chaos Bolt spends Soul Shards and always crits. Against groups you use Rain of Fire instead.
- Havoc: marks a second target that is also hit by your single-target spells.
- Infernal: your big cooldown, a demon of fire that crashes down from the sky.
Key Abilities
- Incinerate: your basic spell, generates Soul Shard fragments.
- Immolate: burns the target over time and generates fragments.
- Conflagrate: an instant explosion that speeds up your next spell.
- Chaos Bolt: always crits, Destruction's signature spell.
- Rain of Fire: hellfire rains down on an area.
- Havoc: your single-target spells also hit a second target.
- Summon Infernal: an Infernal crashes down and fights for you.
Lore: The Scepter of Sargeras
Destruction draws on the raw power of the Burning Legion: hellfire, chaos and annihilation. This magic comes from the Twisting Nether, home of the demons, and is as dangerous as it is powerful.
In Legion, Destruction Warlocks wielded the Scepter of Sargeras, a weapon of the fallen titan himself. More destruction in a single weapon is hard to imagine.
Strengths and Weaknesses
Strengths
- a simple, clear loop,
- big, visible single hits,
- strong against two targets thanks to Havoc,
- the Warlock's self-healing and survival tools.
Weaknesses
- many spells with cast times,
- cloth, vulnerable to direct hits,
- less companion fantasy than Demonology.
Who Is the Destruction Warlock For?
A good fit if you …
- want an easy-to-understand caster,
- love big hits and fire,
- enjoy chaotic hellfire magic.
Probably not if you …
- want to be on the move a lot,
- prefer spreading effects over time, in which case Affliction fits.
Destruction, Affliction or Demonology?
Affliction works with curses and damage over time, Demonology commands a demon army. Destruction is the choice for everyone who wants things to go boom.
