How It Feels

Balance is the Druid who calls on the powers of the sun, moon and stars. As a Moonkin, an owl-like creature with antlers, you hurl sunfire and moonlight at your enemies, and when your power is released, stars rain from the sky.

It has a rhythm of its own. You alternate between solar and lunar phases, build Astral Power and unload it in big spells. Balance is especially strong against groups, and the cosmic look is unique.

How Balance Works

The Balance Druid uses Astral Power and Eclipses:

  1. Apply effects: Moonfire and Sunfire deal damage over time.
  2. Trigger Eclipse: Wrath and Starfire put you into a Solar or Lunar Eclipse that empowers spells of that side.
  3. Build Astral Power: your spells generate Astral Power.
  4. Spend: Starsurge against one target, Starfall against groups.
  5. Celestial Alignment: your big cooldown, both Eclipses at once and more haste.

Key Abilities

  • Moonkin Form: your combat form, more spell damage and armor.
  • Wrath: a ball of nature energy on the solar side.
  • Starfire: arcane energy against your target and nearby enemies.
  • Moonfire: moonlight that deals instant and lingering damage.
  • Starsurge: spends Astral Power on a strong hit.
  • Starfall: stars rain down on all nearby enemies.
  • Celestial Alignment: both Eclipses at once and more haste.

Lore: Elune and the Moonkin

Balance is closely tied to Elune, the moon goddess of the Night Elves. Her priestesses and the Druids share a reverence for nature, but the Balance Druid combines Druidic knowledge with the power of the heavens. The moonkin themselves are magical creatures that live wild in parts of Azeroth.

In Legion, Balance Druids carried the Scythe of Elune, a weapon bound to the moon goddess herself. Balance stands for harmony between sun and moon, light and darkness, which makes it perhaps the most poetic spec in the game.

Strengths and Weaknesses

Strengths

  • strong against groups thanks to Starfall,
  • a cosmic look all its own,
  • Druid tools like healing and Bear Form for emergencies,
  • a varied rhythm of solar and lunar phases.

Weaknesses

  • managing effects over time and Eclipses takes practice,
  • some spells with cast times,
  • leather, more fragile than plate wearers.

Who Is the Balance Druid For?

A good fit if you …

  • want a caster with a nature theme,
  • love the sun, moon and stars,
  • like switching roles, since a Druid can play everything.

Probably not if you …

  • want an especially easy ranged spec, such as the Beast Mastery Hunter,
  • dislike the owl form, although the glyphed astral form is an alternative.

Balance, Feral, Guardian or Restoration?

The Druid is the only class with four specializations. Feral fights as a cat in melee, Guardian tanks as a bear, Restoration heals with effects over time.

Frequently asked questions

Why do players call the Balance Druid a Boomkin?

Because the Balance Druid fights in Moonkin Form, an owl-like creature with feathers and antlers. Boomkin is the community's affectionate nickname. With a glyph you can swap the form for an astral form that looks like your normal character.

How does Eclipse work for Balance Druids?

Wrath and Starfire alternately put you into a Solar or Lunar Eclipse, which empowers spells of that side. Celestial Alignment keeps both Eclipses active at once. That creates a rhythm of solar and lunar phases.

Is Balance Druid good for beginners?

Medium. The core idea is learnable, but you manage effects over time, Eclipses and Astral Power. If you like fighting from range and enjoy a rhythm of your own, you will do fine.

Is Balance good solo?

Yes. You fight from range, get extra armor from Moonkin Form, can heal yourself and switch to Bear Form in an emergency. Against groups, Starfall helps.
