How It Feels
Guardian is the Druid as a bear, and it feels exactly like it sounds: big, heavy and nearly unshakable. You plant yourself in the middle of a pack, swing your paws and let attacks bounce off your thick fur.
It feels cozy and sturdy. You have lots of health, lots of armor and heal yourself. The bear is considered easy to learn and is one of the safest specs in the game for solo play.
How Guardian Works
The Guardian Druid uses Rage:
- Generate Rage: Mangle and Thrash generate Rage. Thrash hits all nearby enemies and makes them bleed.
- Armor: Ironfur raises your armor for a few seconds and spends Rage. Under heavy melee damage you keep it up constantly.
- Self-healing: Frenzied Regeneration quickly heals you for part of your health.
- Emergencies: Survival Instincts halves the damage you take, Barkskin reduces it as well.
Key Abilities
- Bear Form: your combat form as a bear, more armor and health.
- Mangle: your main attack, generates Rage.
- Thrash: hits all nearby enemies and makes them bleed.
- Ironfur: more armor for a few seconds.
- Frenzied Regeneration: quickly heals you for part of your health.
- Survival Instincts: halves damage taken for a few seconds.
- Barkskin: your skin turns hard as bark and you take less damage.
Lore: Ursoc and Ursol
Bear Form honors Ursoc and Ursol, the bear gods among Azeroth's demigods. Ursoc once fell in battle and was later seized by the corruption of the Emerald Nightmare before heroes freed his spirit. The furbolgs revere the bear brothers to this day.
In Legion, Guardian Druids carried the Claws of Ursoc as their artifact. The Guardian Druid embodies the protective power of nature: big, patient and unshakable when it counts.
Strengths and Weaknesses
Strengths
- lots of health and armor,
- strong self-healing,
- easy to learn, sturdy and forgiving,
- one of the safest specs solo.
Weaknesses
- fewer active tools than a Brewmaster or Demon Hunter,
- less mobile than a Vengeance Demon Hunter,
- in Bear Form you see none of your gear.
Who Is the Guardian Druid For?
A good fit if you …
- want a sturdy, cozy tank,
- want to be as safe as possible solo,
- love the bear fantasy.
Probably not if you …
- want a technical, active tank, in which case the Brewmaster fits,
- want to see your armor in combat, for example as a Protection Paladin.
Guardian, Balance, Feral or Restoration?
Balance fights from range, Feral as a cat in melee, Restoration heals. The bear is the choice for everyone who wants to tank safely and comfortably.
