How It Feels
Enhancement is the Shaman who channels the storm into their weapons. You fight with two weapons in melee, but every strike crackles with electricity or glows with lava. Spirit wolves leap into battle at your side, and in the thick of it you hurl lightning without taking a step back.
It feels fast and layered. Many effects interlock, and you weave melee and magic into a rhythm no other spec quite has.
How Enhancement Works
Enhancement lives on Maelstrom Weapon:
- Melee: Stormstrike and Lava Lash are your main strikes.
- Charge Maelstrom: your melee hits have a chance to build up to five stacks of Maelstrom Weapon.
- Release lightning: each stack makes your next Lightning Bolt or Chain Lightning faster and stronger. At full stacks you cast it instantly.
- Groups: Crash Lightning hits all enemies in front of you and makes your next strikes discharge lightning.
- Big moments: Feral Spirit summons two spirit wolves, Ascendance turns you into an Air Ascendant.
Key Abilities
- Stormstrike: a massive blow with both lightning-charged weapons.
- Lava Lash: charges your off-hand with lava and burns the target.
- Maelstrom Weapon: melee hits build stacks that empower your lightning.
- Crash Lightning: lightning against all enemies in front of you, empowers your next strikes.
- Feral Spirit: two spirit wolves fight at your side.
- Ascendance: you become an Air Ascendant, Stormstrike gets cheaper and faster.
Lore: Thrall and the Doomhammer
The Enhancement Shaman carries a special weapon in its history: the Doomhammer, wielded by Orgrim Doomhammer and later by Thrall. In Legion it became the Enhancement Shaman's artifact, a hammer that carries the history of the Horde.
Enhancement embodies the side of the Shaman that does not just call the elements but embodies them. The spirit wolves recall the close bond between the orcs and the wolves of their homeworld Draenor, and the Air Ascendant shows how close a Shaman can come to the elements.
Strengths and Weaknesses
Strengths
- a unique blend of melee and magic,
- mail, heals and totems as tools,
- strong against groups,
- very satisfying once the rhythm clicks.
Weaknesses
- demanding, many effects at once,
- mistakes in the loop cost noticeable damage,
- a longer learning curve than other melee specs.
Who Is the Enhancement Shaman For?
A good fit if you …
- want to combine melee and magic,
- want a complex spec with lots of depth,
- love Thrall and the elements.
Probably not if you …
- want a simple melee, in which case Fury or Retribution fits,
- prefer fighting from range, in which case Elemental is the pick.
Enhancement, Elemental or Restoration?
Elemental fights with lightning and lava from range, Restoration heals with waves and totems. Enhancement is the choice for everyone who wants to hold the storm in their own hands.
