How It Feels

The Restoration Shaman heals with the power of water. Healing waves roll over your allies, rain falls on the group, and totems stand like beacons on the battlefield. You do not just heal individual players, you shape the space the group fights in.

It feels powerful and group-focused. You are especially strong when the group stands close together, because then your heals and totems jump from one player to the next.

How Restoration Works

The Shaman heals with mana and totems:

  1. Riptide: an instant heal with extra healing over time, ideal for setting up.
  2. Chain Heal: heals your target and jumps to the three most injured allies nearby.
  3. Healing Rain: heals up to six allies in an area over time.
  4. Healing Wave: an efficient single-target heal.
  5. Totems: Healing Stream Totem heals continuously, Healing Tide Totem heals the whole group strongly, Spirit Link Totem evens out health.

Key Abilities

Lore: The Spirit of Water

For Shamans, water stands for life and healing. Restoration Shamans ask the spirits of water for help so their allies can keep fighting. That tradition is found among the Tauren of Mulgore as well as the Draenei, whose prophet Nobundo was the first of his people to find the path of the elements in Outland.

In Legion, Restoration Shamans carried Sharas'dal, Scepter of Tides, a weapon from the depths of the sea. Thrall and the Earthen Ring stand for this healing side as well: after the Cataclysm, the Shamans tried to heal the wounded world itself.

Strengths and Weaknesses

Strengths

  • strong group healing, especially when stacked,
  • many totems with unique effects,
  • mail, sturdier than cloth wearers,
  • Spirit Link Totem as a special rescue tool.

Weaknesses

  • totems are tied to one spot,
  • weaker when the group is spread out,
  • slow solo.

Who Is the Restoration Shaman For?

A good fit if you …

  • like healing groups rather than single targets,
  • love totems and elemental spirits,
  • enjoy keeping an eye on your group's positioning.

Probably not if you …

Restoration, Elemental or Enhancement?

Elemental fights with lightning from range, Enhancement in melee with two weapons. Restoration is the choice for everyone who wants to heal with the spirits of water.

Frequently asked questions

Is Restoration Shaman a good healer for beginners?

Yes, with some practice. Its heals are easy to understand, and totems give you strong tools for emergencies. Since many heals depend on groups standing close, you learn to pay attention to your group's positioning.

How does Chain Heal work?

Chain Heal heals your target and then jumps to the three most injured allies nearby. Each jump heals for less. If the group stands close together, one spell heals four people.

What does Spirit Link Totem do?

The totem reduces damage taken by all nearby group members and evens out their health every second. That lets you save players on low health by spreading the damage across everyone. It is one of the most distinctive healing tools in the game.

Is Restoration Shaman good solo?

Rather slow for questing, since a healer's damage is low. Most Shamans level as Elemental or Enhancement and switch to Restoration for dungeons.
