How It Feels
Arms is the Warrior with the big two-handed weapon and the spec for people who like rhythm. You set up the enemy, wait for the right window and then strike with full force. Every hit should land, no swing is wasted.
The fantasy is that of the seasoned veteran: not a raging berserker, but a fighter who knows exactly when to strike. You feel it most at the end of a fight, when enemies drop below 20 percent health and Execute finishes them in one blow.
How Arms Works
The Arms Warrior uses Rage. It builds up in combat, mostly from auto attacks, and drains away when you are not fighting. Roughly, the loop looks like this:
- Open a window: Colossus Smash shatters the enemy's armor. For a few seconds they take much more damage from you.
- Strike: during that window you use Mortal Strike and your strongest attacks. Overpower empowers your next Mortal Strike.
- Finish: when an enemy drops below 20 percent, Execute becomes your most important ability. The more Rage you put in, the harder it hits.
- Groups: Sweeping Strikes makes your next attacks hit a second target, Bladestorm spins through all enemies around you.
The appeal lies in planning your big moments well and saving Rage for the right window.
Key Abilities
- Mortal Strike: the Arms Warrior's signature strike. High damage, and healing on the target is halved for a few seconds.
- Colossus Smash: shatters the armor of all enemies around you, who then take more damage from you.
- Overpower: an attack that cannot be dodged, parried or blocked and empowers your next Mortal Strike.
- Execute: the killing blow against enemies on low health, stronger with more Rage.
- Sweeping Strikes: your next single-target attacks also hit a second target.
- Bladestorm: you spin through all nearby enemies for a few seconds, immune to slows and loss of control.
Lore: Veterans of Battle
Warriors exist in almost every culture of Azeroth, from the soldiers of Stormwind to the orcish warbands. Arms stands for the Warrior who has honed their craft over decades. A good example is Varok Saurfang, the old orc general with the great axe, whose sense of honor and battle experience made him one of the most respected figures of the Horde.
In Legion, Warriors got their own class hall, Skyhold. There the titan keeper Odyn chose them to lead the Valarjar, an army of eternal warriors. That suits the Arms Warrior: combat as honor and discipline, not blind fury.
Strengths and Weaknesses
Strengths
- clear, learnable playstyle with satisfying big hits,
- plate armor and a few defensive buttons,
- Mortal Strike reduces enemy healing, strong in PvP,
- Sweeping Strikes and Bladestorm help against groups.
Weaknesses
- less self-healing than a Paladin or Death Knight,
- pure melee, enemies at range cost time,
- missed windows cost noticeable damage.
Who Is the Arms Warrior For?
A good fit if you …
- love big weapons and heavy hits,
- enjoy playstyles where timing and setup matter,
- are interested in PvP.
Probably not if you …
- want to plan as little as possible and just charge in, in which case Fury is the better pick,
- are looking for a class with a lot of self-healing.
Arms, Fury or Protection?
All three Warrior specs share Rage, plate armor and the Charge into battle. Fury wields two weapons and plays faster and more frenzied, Protection tanks with a shield. Arms is the right choice if control matters more to you than speed.
