WoW Forever Tank Classes: Warrior, Druid and Paladin Compared
Updated: Game version: Beta · launch Nov 4
In short
In WoW Forever, Warrior, Druid and Paladin can tank. Based on WoW Classic, the Protection Warrior is expected to be the main tank for dungeons and raids, the Guardian Druid is a sturdy and flexible tank in bear form, and the Protection Paladin is a niche with strong area tanking. Forever reworks the talent trees, so we will check this at launch on November 4, 2026.
Tanks keep enemies away from the group. In WoW Forever this is an especially responsible role: threat builds more slowly, mistakes are punished harder, and good tanks are always in demand. In WoW Forever, three classes can tank.
Our basis: WoW Forever launches on November 4, 2026 and builds on WoW Classic. This guide is based on Classic experience. Forever reworks the talent trees with new milestone talents, so the balance between the tanks may shift. We will check after launch.
Warrior: the classic tank
The Warrior is the tank, especially in raids. That is how it was in Classic, and we expect the same in Forever. In Defensive Stance it blocks with its shield, builds threat with Sunder Armor and Revenge and pulls enemies back with Taunt. In emergencies Shield Wall helps, and talents add Shield Slam.
A good fit if you want to lead the group and are keen on the classic tank experience. The Warrior levels slowly solo, but as a tank you will always find a group.
Druid: the flexible bear
The Druid tanks in Bear Form with lots of armor and health. Maul generates threat, Growl pulls enemies back, and Demoralizing Roar weakens whole groups. In dungeons the bear is very sturdy; in Classic raids it was often the second tank.
A good fit if you want to stay flexible: between fights you can deal damage as a cat or heal the group.
Paladin: the niche with potential
The Paladin tanks with shield and holy light. Righteous Fury increases its threat, and with Consecration and Holy Shield it holds many enemies at once. In Classic, however, it had no taunt, which made it a niche there.
A good fit if you want to play something special. Exciting in Forever: the new milestone talents could strengthen the Protection Paladin, and with the Undead Paladin it is available to the Horde for the first time.
Tips for new tanks in WoW Forever
- Mark your targets. Skull first, cross next: clear targets help the whole group.
- Pull calmly. One group at a time is better than too many at once.
- Give threat time. Ask your group to wait a moment after the pull before going all in.
- Know the dungeons. Knowing the routes and dangerous enemies is worth more than perfect gear.
